Hi, I'm Alan Hayes. My interest in herbs first began when, as a teenager,
I became aware, through my grandmother, of the herbal lore that had been passed down
through my family generations. Now widely known to Australians through my Its
So Natural writings, it is my knack of adapting the wisdom of the ages into
solutions for the problems of the nineties and beyond, particularly environmental issues,
that has set me apart. My suggestions are economical, easy to use, and they work.
I live on a small farm with my family in a beautiful rural valley
behind the Central Coast of NSW, Australia.
We grow our own vegetables and fruit, recycle all sorts of material,
and make our own household products, too, from natural materials that are as effective as
the harsher chemicals in commercial products.
For a time I had a successful career in advertising but the wide
knowledge of herbs gained from my grandmother and from reading family records encouraged
me to become more involved with herbs, to study herbal medicine and natural therapies, and
to establish a reasonably self-sufficient lifestyle for my family.
This led me to write a weekly newspaper column of environmentally
friendly hints, tips and remedies for home, health and garden. The column Its So
Natural® is published in newspapers Australia wide and is also published internationally
throughout New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States Of America.
I'm recognised as one of the foremost exponents of the natural
lifestyle. I've published some 23 books on herbs, health and natural alternatives, and my
wide range of best selling books shares my down-to-earth and practical knowledge about
natural living.
I am totally committed to recycling, healthy living and utilising
natural resources. My philosophy works three ways: do-it-yourself, save the planet,
and save money. I am now recognised as Australasia's best-known exponent of the natural
life and the guru of herbal lore.
I also appear regularly on a number of high rating national television
programmes as their natural alternatives expert, speaking on and demonstrating the
versatility of herbs for natural products.
